We call it a jug because it's tall and cylindrical. If it's squat and domed then it's a kettle, but they're not very common or popular in New Zealand for whatever reason. And most of the kettles I've seen are the traditional stove-top variety rather than electric.
Christchurch is the way to go guys! Man, one of my favourite memories is walking across the Routeburn, and then hitching my way to the start of the Milford Sound Circuit! Its like Mini Canada there...love it.
I am not too much worry about little difference on expenses. I just wonder how the job market like in NewZealand. In uk, specially in London we have huge job market. I also visited few job sites, pay does not look very good. Could someone shade some light please.
Haven't been to New Zealand yet, but this is great info for when I get there. Cooking is big for me so it's interesting to hear how expensive groceries are, but makes sense being such a small island that it would be more seasonal.
Technically speaking you do pay council tax, your landlord pays it then adds it to your rent. There are only two supermarket chains in New Zealand so it is a cosy duopoly that doesn't really want to compete that hard with one another. Fifty percent of the cost of fuel in New Zealand is tax which is way too high but apparently the Bolsheviks who run the place seem to deem it necessary. No matter what they say on Top Gear, Japanese vehicles are much better than European ones, my thirty year old Corrolla is almost bullet proof, cheap to maintain and virtually never fails a WoF.
im a kiwi who lived in Australia until 3 yr ago and was totally shocked at the prices when I returned here...real shame this country was a very cheap and affordable country to live in 20 yr ago.. wages have more or less stagnated but cost of living absolutely disgusting ...I hope tourist stop coming here and getting ripped off might teach these ppl running the country a lesson
