SB and Matt are a young couple who made a big decision to build a tiny house after getting married. Moving to Colorado from Oklahoma meant a big jump in rent prices, so building the tiny house on wheels was a great option to save money and invest in their future.

Support us on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/livingbig

The couple managed to keep their build costs manageable thanks to doing all of the labour themselves. Fortunately, they were able to build the tiny house under the guidance of SB's father, who is a contractor. Amazingly, they were able to keep the cost of their tiny home build to a remarkable $18,000, allowing them to live debt free and with low rent for a parking space. Their finished tiny house is absolutely beautiful, with gorgeous finishes and lots of clever small space design ideas.

This modern tiny house is truly a musicians dream home. Asha Mevlana is an electric violinist with the Trans Siberian Orchestra who is used to life on tour but wanted a solid place to call home. This incredible tiny house is constructed on foundations but is joined by a mobile music studio on wheels, which also doubles as a practice space as well as performance venue.

Asha's home is beautiful and spacious. At 40ft, it's certainly on the larger side of tiny, yet is packed with very clever small space design ideas.

The adjoining mobile music studio is a fantastic addition. Decorated to look like a giant amp, it's marine speakers allow it to also transform into a performance space for wonderful back-yard concerts and also enabling the music studio to be taken on tour and to festivals.

Yoga Teacher's Amazing Furniture-Free Tiny House Designed For Body Movement

Living Big In A Tiny House wrote the post • 0 comments • 566 views • 2019-05-08 21:34 • added this tag no more than 24h

Jayme is a yoga teacher who has built an amazing and beautiful tiny house which is designed to encourage body movement. While still being a stunning and functional home, this tiny house on wheels has lots of things to climb on and hang off, helping to support Jayme in her health and fitness goals.

Support us on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/livingbig

This tiny house is furniture free. The furniture free movement encourages people to ditch their couches and sofa's and instead create open, functional and versatile spaces which encourage body movement. Without supporting furniture, the body is forced to find more ways to engage and relax. Ultimately, this helps to not only burn calories, but also to build strength and muscles.

Read More: https://www.livingbiginatinyhouse.com...

This home was built from all reclaimed / salvaged materials which have come together beautifully in this tiny house. Amazingly, Jayme was able to construct this beautiful home for the unbelievable price of only $12,000, thanks to her resourcefulness and willingness to get stuck in and tackle the tiny house build herself.

Enjoy the full tour of this innovative tiny house on wheels!

When this family grew tired of life in the city, they decided to sell up and start a new life together in the country, purchasing land in rural New Zealand and building the ultimate city escape, a tiny floating cabin which was constructed on pontoons.

As an architect, Doug is traditionally used to designing large homes, but when it came to his own house, he decided to go for something different and instead designed and built his own tiny house on wheels.

With his experience in architecture and design, Doug has been able to build an incredible tiny house, which is not only efficient in it's use of space and high performance materials but is practically designed for full time living.

https://www.livingbiginatinyhouse.com...

Located in Wanaka, New Zealand this tiny house on wheels has found a truly wonderful parking spot right by the river. Hight house prices in the area have encouraged many to search out alternative living situations and the tiny house movement is now flourishing. The home's off the grid design allows it to be parked and lived in anywhere, with solar power supplying all of the homes energy needs.

Off The Grid Cabin In New Zealand Paradise

Hidden amongst the spectacular mountain ranges of the Kahurangi National park of New Zealand, this beautiful off-the-grid cabin sits in paradise.

Affectionally titled the Honeywell Hut, after it's builder Jack Honeywell, the off the grid cabin, although relatively new, looks as though it could have sat on the land for a hundred years.

https://www.livingbiginatinyhouse.com...

Being situated on such a remote property, the cabin has to be completely off the grid, collecting it's own water and generating power though a small solar system.

Be sure to watch to the end of the video for a beautiful spoken word poem from Richard about the Baton Valley. To learn more about their horse trekking business, you can visit their website here: http://www.nelsonhorsetreks.co.nz/

Affectionally titled the Honeywell Hut, after it's builder Jack Honeywell, the off the grid cabin, although relatively new, looks as though it could have sat on the land for a hundred years.

These two derelict old railway carriages have been converted into an absolutely stunning off the grid home. Packed full of character and history from their time on the railway, these carriages are now a wonderful place to call home.

Located in the Central Otago region in the South Island of New Zealand, this conversion project has been a true labour of love. The restoration and renovation took 8 years to get the home to it's current state working part time.

https://www.livingbiginatinyhouse.com...

Being located on such a remote property, the home is unable to connect to services and so is completely off the grid, capturing it's own rain water and generating it's power from a small solar system.

Tiny House Designed To Be Elderly / Disability / Mobility Friendly

Living Big In A Tiny House wrote the post • 0 comments • 532 views • 2019-05-08 21:17 • added this tag no more than 24h

Growing older is a gift. Unfortunately that gift also comes with it’s own burdens, often meaning a lack of mobility and thus a loss of independence. This spectacular tiny house design has helped to give mobility and independence back to one very special lady though, through some very clever small space design to create an elderly, disability and mobility friendly tiny house on wheels.

Support our show: https://www.patreon.com/livingbig

This tiny house has many elderly / disability friendly features which helps to make this tiny home a very liveable space. These features include design aspects such as ramps, reinforced walls for secure hand rails, and an accessibility toilet and shower. Care was taken to ensure there are zero trip hazards in the home and the dimensions of the home were even designed around the ability to use a wheelchair in the tiny house if need be.

Read More: https://www.livingbiginatinyhouse.com...

For those who have disabilities or mobility issues, one of the best things about a tiny house on wheels is that you can design it to your specific needs. In this case, Merle has a home where she is warm and comfortable, but most importantly, a house which has given her back her independence and dramatically increased her quality of life.

This one’s a real heart-warming tiny house story. If only we could all be as fortunate as Merle in our ‘more mature’ years. I hope you enjoy it!

This week we give you a full tour of our ambulance camper (we call it our campulance) which we use travel and camp all over North America!

Support our show: https://www.patreon.com/livingbig

We have plans in 2019 to do a full camper conversion on this ambulance, which is built on a 2008 Chevy C4500 and which was a fully working ambulance up until it was retired from service in 2017.In this pre-conversion tour, you'll see the ambulance as we bought her, as well as how we have been using it as a vehicle to tour with.

Read More: https://www.livingbiginatinyhouse.com...

Not only is our Campulance a home away from home, it's also a tow vehicle which we use to pull our tiny house around. We've installed a full tow package which means that we will be able to travel with both the tiny house, and the campulance together, or just take the camper for shorter excursions. For us, this ambulance camper is like living the vanlife dream. It's a great vehicle and has been an amazing home on the road.

After graduating from university, this entrepreneurial young couple kick started their next phase of life by building an incredible eco tiny house together!

Unbelievably, Sam and Simone managed to construct this tiny house as a DIY project for only AU$17,000 which works out to be just over US$12,000. In this video, we discuss how they were able to construct their tiny house for such an affordable price and tips for building tiny houses for less. Especially in a country like Australia, where the material cost of building can be very high!

Read More: https://www.livingbiginatinyhouse.com...

As students of wildlife and environmental sciences, the couple now have plans to regenerate the property where the tiny house is parked. They are also using the tiny house as a base to launch a new online business. I hope you enjoy this full video tour of this stunning tiny home.

Incredible Small Off-Grid Earthship Home

Living Big In A Tiny House wrote the post • 0 comments • 527 views • 2019-05-08 21:10 • added this tag no more than 24h

This off-the-grid home in Adelaide, Australia is something completely different! An Earthship is a radically sustainable and self-sufficient building which uses a combination of modern off-grid technology, super clever passive solar design techniques and a whole lot of recycled materials (including trash) all mixed with earth building techniques to create an incredible, high performance home.

Support our show: https://www.patreon.com/livingbig

The small Earthship home was built by Martin and Zoe, as a challenge to create Australia's first council approved Earthship. Together (and with a lot of volunteer labour) they have worked within the system to create a truly impressive small home.

Read More: https://www.livingbiginatinyhouse.com...

This Earthship is filled with impressive off-the-grid technology, including solar power, rain-water collection, grey water filtration and much more.  The home also uses clever passive technologies such as it's passive solar design and even a natural cooling system using underground tubes. Beyond all that though, it's beautiful. The design and finish of this home are sure to leave you impressed! I hope you enjoy the full tour of this amazing small house!

Off-Grid Artisan Tiny House Built To Escape Wildfires

Living Big In A Tiny House wrote the post • 0 comments • 549 views • 2019-05-08 21:09 • added this tag no more than 24h

\Ryan was fortunate. With his last 28ft tiny house on wheels he managed to pull it just out of the way of the wildfires which swept through California in 2017. That experience really got him thinking about the design of his home though and he decided to build something more compact which was more easily moved.

His first tiny house on wheels was an absolute dream. You can see a full video tour of that home here: https://youtu.be/XA5gF2FdNlY

It's quite common for people to build smaller when they construct a second tiny house. The smaller the home, the easier they are to tow and the easier they are to find parking spaces for.

Just like his first tiny house on wheels, this one is exceptionally well constructed. Every inch of this home is a celebration of craftsmanship and sustainable sourcing of materials, making this build a true artesian eco tiny home.

Jay Shafer is a man who many know as the Godfather of the modern tiny house movement. It was 20 years ago now that he build his original tiny house on wheels and that moment has since inspired thousands of people all over the world (me included) to construct their own tiny homes.

His new tiny house design is aimed at taking things back to the absolute basics and simplicity in all aspects. That means a home which is simple and pleasant to live in, simple to build and also simple to afford. This new tiny house design costs a remarkably low sum of US $5000!

In this weeks episode, we explore Jay's new tiny house and dive into his philosophy around tiny homes, tiny house building and much more.

Our tiny house on wheels is designed for life on the move! At only 16 x 8ft (5 x 2.5m) it's super compact, lightweight and designed for life on the road!

In this weeks episode we travel into the High Sierra region of California to visit a dynamic young family who are living big in a yurt home on their 30 acre homestead / permaculture property.

Support us on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/livingbig

Traditionally used by nomads in Central Asia, yurts are much less common in the west, however these well insulated, portable structures are certainly starting to become a popular option amongst those seeking an affordable, alternative home.

Read More: https://www.livingbiginatinyhouse.com...

Brett and Beth together with their son Sequoia have established a beautiful lifestyle in their yurt and on their land, where they grow food, live (almost) off the grid and are working on regenerating the land through permaculture.

The couple also have the benefit of working from home as educators in permaculture and homesteading though their website: http://highsierrapermaculture.com/

This dynamic young couple are used to working hard and bringing their dreams to life, one of those dreams was to construct their own tiny house on wheels. Eve and Chris decided to make the move to Raglan, New Zealand for a better quality of life, but the rental market didn’t make that easy - so the couple decided to get creative and put their skills to the test to build a tiny home.

Chris has a furniture making business and is no stranger to tools and timber, which is evident from the homes clever design and great finishes. The couple spent a lot of time searching for cheap materials for the home which helped to greatly reduce the cost of the build and make the tiny house truly an affordable option.

Eve is very used to big projects and to dedicating herself to a task. Representing New Zealand as an Olympic Athlete in rowing, she fell into depression after the olympics and used the tiny house as a project to set her mind to accomplishing a goal and helping to move into a more positive space.

Together, this couple have created a wonderful home. Enjoy the full tour of this very special tiny house. To find out more about their projects, visit their website: https://www.facebook.com/Raglan-tiny-...

Living Big In A Tiny House wrote the post • 0 comments • 514 views • 2019-05-08 21:04 • added this tag no more than 24h

If you’re a fan of movies and tv, this could very well be the ideal tiny house for you! Dynamic young couple Erin and Jake set about designing and building their dream tiny house on wheels which is jam packed with super clever design features, including a huge loft theatre for watching movies.

Support our show: https://www.patreon.com/livingbig

Erin works as an architectural technician and has a background in interior design which meant this project was a great opportunity for her to really put her skills to the test. She also did the vast majority of the building work on the tiny house.

Read More: https://www.livingbiginatinyhouse.com...

Thanks to some brilliant design, this home is very functional with all the necessities and lots of clever extras, including an ingenious fold out dining table in the kitchen and a great double loft design which created space for the movie theatre, an essential element for Jake who works in the film industry. I hope you enjoy full tour of this spectacular tiny house on wheels.
